National Assembly in Review From Heather

Last month, our secretary for PRSSA attended National Assembly in Charlotte, NC. Here’s her reflection and review of the experience! Thank you, Heather, for representing our chapter!

The 2012 PRSSA National Assembly in Charlotte was an eye-opening experience to have as an aspiring public relations professional. During the four-day assembly, I had the opportunity to participate in a PR competition, learn about PRSSA opportunities and help elect the new National PRSSA Committee.

I was glad Liz told me to make sure I had a set of business cards because PRSSA members love to network. A lot. I met representatives from across the nation. It was inspiring to be around fellow PRSSA members who are just as passionate about PR as I am. We all seemed to have an instant bond, regardless of where we were from.

When I was not in the twelve-hour session electing the new members of the Committee, I had the opportunity to learn more about opportunities Elon PRSSA can take advantage of. There are numerous scholarships members can apply for, as well as a list of standards we can meet to become a Star Chapter. Ethics was at the forefront of all discussion during Assembly. Since ethics are an important, but often overlooked, part of PR, it is good to know PRSA and PRSSA take them so seriously.

I would recommend National Assembly for any member looking to take on additional leadership with PRSSA and connect with members from around the nation. Spending time with PR students and learning more about the field I love was a great way to kick off my spring break.
